Problem with my HDTV (RCA F38310)?

I have an older HDTV- originally purchased in 2001. It’s the RCA F38310. A 38″ wide screen (tube). It supports 480i and 1080i.
Here’s the problem. When I switch from a lower resolution UP to 1080i – the picture scrambles- and it stays scrambled.
The only way to unscramble it is to toggle back and forth between the 1080i signal and an unused input.
Sometimes it works the first time, other times I’m switching back and forth for 5 minutes before it clears up.
Anyone have an idea what the problem is and how it could be fixed? …Does anyone one even own this model anymore?
