I **** to tell this to people, but please, check your Owner’s Manual.
I just bought a new HDTV as well. There are options for at least four different display methods. Choosing anything but “auto detect” gives me some kind of cut-off or distorted picture if the incoming signal is not exactly one of the options I selected. “Auto” seems to make every channel come in correctly sized.
The menu for finding this setting may be buried layers down in your on-screen displays; that’s why I suggest going to the owner’s manual. It is your “bible” for how to get the most enjoyment out of your new HDTV, and the learn all the features and options that may not be obvious otherwise.
