Lack of a signal on the Wii? HDTV Problem?

My mother has a Polaroid HDTV (not the best I know, but hey) and she got a Wii a while back for it for my nieces and nephews to play. We started to notice more often that the controller’s get an awful signal. The little hand cursor jerks and jumps around as if its not getting a signal. So we thought it could have been the sensor bar, but after buying a new one, it continues to do so. My own Wii works perfectly fine on my standard tv with typical A/V cords. My mom is using A/V cords on the HDTV. Could it be because she is not using component or HDMI cables? We’ve tried using my controllers that normally work fine, but it continues to happen. Any suggestions? Thanks!
