Jonny asked:

Hi, i’ve recently bought a Sony 40″ 40L4000 HDTV (Supports 1080p) and have hooked up my computer to it via VGA cable.

My original 22″ PC monitor supports resolutions up to 1680×1050.
However, my HDTV only displays up to 1360×768, using the same exact cable.. How do i ‘up’ the resolution? Or is 1360×768 the highest supported resolution between my TV and Graphics Card? (I have an NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS graphics card.)

I attempted to use a program called PowerStrip to try to add a custom resolution, but i was unsure of how to use it, and now whenever i run the program, my TV displays something like “Resolution not supported” and i have to restart the computer due to not being able to see anything.

I’m just wondering how to use these higher resolutions that my TV is capable of!

Also, if I have to use this PowerStrip program, could you please help me restore default settings to it? Or stop it from using the unsupported resolution every time i start it up?!

One more thing… would using DVI enable higher resolutions easier?

Einige HDTVs Sie haben eine Auflösung begrenzen wenn der VGA-Anschluss. Sie sollten definitiv einen DVI-auf-HDMI-Kabel und sehen Sie, wenn Sie können höher. You should definitely use a DVI-to-HDMI cable and see if you can go higher.

I also have a Sony big-screen TV, a 52″ Bravia LCD. My computer is hooked up to it with a DVI-to-HDMI cable and it looks fabulous at 1080p / 1920×1080 resolution. ]
